Subnet & VLAN Planner
Plan VLANs, subnets, gateways and DHCP ranges for your home or office network. Free, fast and easy to use.
| VLAN | Network | Subnet | Gateway | Static | DHCP pool | Usable |
|---|
Enter a base network, then a name, VLAN ID and the number of devices for each network. The planner assigns a subnet to every VLAN, picks the gateway address and splits each subnet into a static range and a DHCP pool. Choose “third octet = VLAN ID” for easy-to-read /24 networks such as 192.168.20.0/24 for VLAN 20, or “smallest subnets” to save address space. Export the plan as CSV.
Calculations run locally in your browser. Results are for information only — for engineering, electrical or financial decisions, verify the assumptions and applicable standards.
What subnet size do I need?
A /24 subnet has 254 usable addresses, which is plenty for most home VLANs. Smaller subnets save space: /26 has 62 usable addresses and /27 has 30. Plan for growth – the planner adds a 30 % reserve when it chooses the smallest subnets.
Why match the third octet to the VLAN ID?
With 192.168.10.0/24 for VLAN 10 and 192.168.20.0/24 for VLAN 20, you can tell from any IP address which network a device is in. It makes firewall rules, troubleshooting and documentation much easier.
